This is a red-tail but is this a Kriders - or is tail too red? If not - then ID?
Didn't get photo of underneath but very white with sparse band.
Any help is appreciated but realize it may be difficult with only the one photo.
Hi Deb- I have the Wheeler and Clark Photographic Guide to North America Raptors and the top-side of their Krider's p. 86 looks like yours. However, they describe the underparts as "relatively unmarked" so not sure if this would fit your description of the breast of your bird. Based on the images in aforementioned book, I don't think your tail is too red for a Krider's.
Thanks for help. The 'band' that this bird had was spotty at best - not solid like red-tails have. Wish I had gotten the underside but lately the birds have chosen to fly away from me instead of at me:o
The other Krider's that I have seen didn't have the reddish tail - so wasn't sure.
Thanks again for your time and reply. Appreciated.
