Default Third adult loon - with fish

I was watching this loon catch food for its young. It was bringing up little pieces. Suddenly, it got this fish - guess it was too good to give the chick - too big too. :D

    Allan,

Great colors and sharpness on the eye. More DOF and you could have gotten the fish sharp too but as you mentioned, this image was a surprise. Has this been cropped? Reason I ask is that I would personally prefer more room left and right.

    Stunning sharpness and details.
Felt the same about a bit tight overall.

I did not crop it. I like the IQ of the 300 but wish I had a zoom to work with in my kayak.

I like the water droplets and the fish in the mouth. A neat action shot. The colors are excellent. it is sharp & well exposed. Based on the ripples in the FG, would a CW rotation be advisable?

    Andrew:'

A good observation about rotation, but that would exacerbate the tight crop, so perhaps Allan felt this was the best option.

Fantastic close-up, and you dealt with the surprise moment adequately. I agree with CW rotation, and it isn't too difficult to add canvas back to the cropped corners...quick and dirty job here, but you can get the gist...

P.S. altohugh they were not blown, I also toned down the brightest parts of the fish while I was a it.

Thanks for the comments. I will make another copy with rotation and added canvas.
