Don,
I like your exposure method. :D Thanks for sharing that as it will help others having exposure difficultly. Great BG and nice perch that compliments him well.
I am debating on head angle. Bill looks sharp at tip but eye is not critically sharp. Seems the bill is turned in towards you too much.
Beautiful colors captured with a magnificent BG and perch. Just wish for a bit more DOF on the rock perch.

Don, I think it helped... I am curious to the time of day you took the picture. When you say focus was on the breast, do you mean above the legs or under the head? Looks like it might have been an incoming tide.

Well done, good detail and background. Wish more of the feet were visible. I know unrelated to the photograph, and a side note; you said the turnstones were starting to get their breeding plummage. Unless this image was taken in the spring, or even late winter, you wouldn't expect breeding plummage. During that time period the birds would be preparing for migration to their breeding grounds in the Arctic tundra; therefore such coloration would seem unlikely in September. So when was the photograph taken? In any case good job! regards~Bill
Hi William, The image was made yesterday we have some birds that stay year round and the following is from Wkipediathese birds have been here all summer and this was the first time I have seen them with their more vibrant plumage. Some non-breeding birds remain year round in many parts of the wintering range, with some of those birds still taking on breeding plumage in the spring and summer.

Thanks for the info Don, I did not know this (obviously). Interesting. Hopefully you can take images a few weeks from now and see if they do indeed progress to true breeding plummage. regards~Bill
This is really nice Don. I would consider croping a bit off the top.
Killer image Don. Great job with exposure. Feather details are wonderful in white.
Don, I like the composition , the pose, the exposure and the details. The repost looks good.
