    Hey Peter,
Welcome to the forums! This one belongs in either the avian forum or the ETL (eager to learn) forum.......this is strictly for wildlife. Just let us know where you would prefer to have it moved! Don't forget to post the camera specs like SS, f-stop, etc. too!

I like the action you have captured here.....with the eye still visible. The slightly better head angle would take this up yet another notch.......but it isn't horrible by any means. For me the highlights in the FG are the biggest issue......as they draw the eye too much and away from the GBH...so a crop off the bottom would be the best solution for my tastes and still keep the focus on the action. Nice first post and let us know where you would prefer to have it moved!

    Roman had some great comments.

Like the green water a lot. I am thinking that a higher perspective here might have gotten the bird completely background by the green water. The BG above the water is not nearly as attractive. Going higher here would also have gotten rid of the vertical line (BG to Green Water) running under the body. Regarding the head angle; having the head parallel to the camera or slightly turned in is generally preferable to provide for a more personal connection between the viewer and the subject. At that top of this forum is a STICKY discussing head angle. Also go on over the the Educational Resources Forum and search on head angle for tons of good stuff.

    Thanks for posting.

Well, IMHO, the action draws the eye to where it should be, on the bird. The FG and BG are not important. Think its great.

    Ann:

Yes, nice action, but that isn't enough in most cases, and you want to try and make the entire image work. Our eyes very quickly jump from the 'action' to take in more of the image, and so the better you are able to control the other elements in the image, the more successful the image will be. It might not have been possible for Peter to make the adjustments mentioned above on this image, but next time he will think more about the entire picture, and perhaps make an even better picture.

    Cheers

    Randy
