    Hippo taken on the Olifants river within the greater Kruger national Park. Just after the river had settled after having come down in flood.
    Camera: Canon 1DmIII
    Lens: canon 300 2.8 is usm coupled with a X2 convertor
    Speed: 1/1000

    Iso: 400
    Flash: Off

    Classic opening pose Love the angle and the water dropping down his chin Would give more room all around the frame. Not much you can do about the harsh light except using a drop in polarizer filter

    Don't see a razor sharp point in the image. Will wait for others to ring in ... just got up If you need more shutter speed don't hesitate to go up the Mk3 performs very well brw used the eye to color balance the image and found a slight cast posting below

    Great action. I agree with Al about the tightness of the frame. I note a lot of noise in the background - much more than I would expect with this camera and ISO combination. Did you do a large crop on this image?

    I like the pose and agree with the comments on the color cast and noise. Is this from a JPG as the artifacting and noise looks like a JPG with multiple saves?
