Default Canon 7D with older battery grip

    Hi ,

By any chance the older battery grip (BG2N for Canon 20-30-40-50Ds) can work for 7D as well ? Has anyone tried this old grip with the new 7D body ?

Also, want to know if the Canon BP BP-511/512 rechargeable battery (for Canon 20-30-40-50Ds) can be any good with 7D ?

    Appreciate any inputs please.

    Cheers,

    Saleet,

I have an older grip, back in the D60, 10D days. If that is the same one as for the 20D, 30D, then it will not work on the 7D.

The BP 511/512 batteries will not work either. The new batteries are the same size, but the contacts are different.

The new batteries are a lot better and longer lasting too.

............And a lot more expensive too, I bought some cheapo mickey mouse ones from Hong Kong but you need a separate charger to the canon charger, I haven't bothered. So far the battery has always lasted several days even of quite heavy use, I am not too sure if I actually need a spare in view of it's durability.

There are now several clone 7D batteries available that will work with the Canon charger (and give you percentage left and shots taken) -coming in at half the price of a Canon one. I have heard of several people who claim them to be every bit as good as the Canon ones.
It was only a matter of time before they cracked/copied the OEM batteries.
