She was born with a crooked spine - scoliosis would be the diagnosis if she were an actual "people" - and to make matters worse, the twist started just below her brain stem. At her 12 week check-up the vet and I noticed that something was a bit "off" when she walked so they did an X-ray and the verdict was not pretty. "Either it will untwist as she grows bigger, allowing her some mobility or it will twist tighter and there will be nothing we will be able to do. It will leave her totally paralyzed and unable to breathe."

I couldn't believe it. I had already fallen head over heels in love with her little 4 lb. body and I couldn't imagine life without her.

I prayed...and I waited...and I prayed some more...and I waited some more...and at her one year exam the vet took one look at her and said what I'd waited to here - she'd made good progress and was finally out of the woods.

So she still sits a little crooked and has trouble going up and down a flight of steps and she can't always keep up with her big brother, Petee, but she has been an endless source of joy and laughter for the past five years.

Her full name is Miss Lillian Grace Kenward but we all just call her "Gracie".

Roy, I'm with you. If I had realized how much they shed I might have looked at another breed...but instead I went back and got a second one! I must be insane...

All dogs have a story and yet they continue to be happy, devoted pets. Good to hear Gracie improved. She has such an expressive face!

She's a trooper Jules and looks like a real sweety. Nice happy ending story.
