    Default Barred Owl

We called him Mr. Crazy as he would get really close.
This shot was taken about 15-20 feet away.

Excellnt sharpness. I might be tempted to give a little more room on the left to move his face out of dead-center.

    Thank you Ian.
I will take a look at the file again see if I have more canvas, otherwise have to stretch it.

What a great oppurtunity you had to capture this image. Super detail and sharpness. I agree with a little more room on the left if you have it.

Lovely sharpness as mentioned Troy. I'm quite happy with the comp. On my calibrated monitor there is a cast which I diagnosed in LAB colour to be on the yellow side (+) of the B channel. Nothing tells me there should be a warm, yellow cast so I removed it. Here's a quick fix. Also lightened the eyes a bit while I was there. Again I am a huge fan of detailed portraits like this. I love it.

John, I like your version better. It was a cloudy day, WB was set on Cloudy.
How did you remove the warmness? Appreciate it.

Great detail the changes and repost are better. Good eye to detect the yellow cast. More direct eye contact would put it over the top
where is this bird how is it that you can get so close to it?

Troy, I agree with the others but feel the feathers on the right side are more of a negative than a positive because they aren't as sharp as the face area of the bird. I also think a little use of the clone and brush tool to even out the BG a bit more and a closer crop would possibly take it up another notch. It's totally up to you but I offer this as another way to go:

I'm with Julie re the crop. But it all depends on what you want to tell.

As for detecting color cast, you could use the eye dropper tool to click on some neutral areas to find out.

Nice details. Looks like the owl was in deep thought :)

Hi Troy - Like it - very nice.
Johns repost does improve - prefer it without the colour cast.
    Nice work!
