Hi Gus Just looked at something you need to change ASAP !!!! Shoot in RAW

You are throwing out lots of info when the jpeg saves and the 8 bit will not give you all the smooth transitions You are shooting yourself in the foot The easiest way to convert is in Adobe ACR works very well I use Lightroom which is the same engine Any problems with conversions shoot an email and will work it out

For this big guy would suggest a little more room Seems tight in frame Got a good parallel head position and good exposure The light was harsh Would also move up/down to keep the far shore from merging with the top of the crane

The point of focus in on the wing You need to go for the eye and recompose Makes a difference Not sure what part of the process made the difference but the image does not look smooth? The black swam looked completely different in quality Don't take much to derail the image Its a chain !!!! Keep plugging and let me know if you need help with the conversion !!!!

    Default Mr. Craine in RAW

    Hey Al,
I have been thinking about shooting in RAW but I have the all mighty fear of the unknown (afraid to lose the image) I have Nikon Capture NX and Adobe Lightroom, also Adobe Elements 4. I will try it next time.
Your wisdom and guidence greatly appreciated

    Gus...:(

Gus there is no chance of loosing anything

Download the images to your HD Go to LR and import but only a reference Upon import there will be a window that asks if you want to move to different location, leave and just import reference etc Go for the reference This way you RAW images will be intact Anything you do in LR will not affect your original At a later date you might learn something and can go back to that favorite and do over

The conversion itself is straight forward Let me know if you run into problems All reversible !!!!!!!!

Capt NX is great but has a steep learning curve I only do the special images there Export to a folder and open from there Your original raw does not move and is not affected

At some time it would be good to get Adobe Photoshop CS3 On the mean time do use elements It is very capable and there is very little difference between the two Elements give you lots of automatic things Stay away from ALL auto corrections

Hey gus, sorry that I can not critique your picture the way Alfred does (lack of knowledge on my part) but I like it.
I also need to start shooting in raw, maybe we can get together and talk about it.
