Most of us, including me, would be happy with this. But if I'm to nitpick, I might note that the bird doesn't seem evenly lit; a little more light on the belly, wing and tail might help, and you might be able to eke out a little more detail in the blacks in that area, but only a tiny bit. I may see a halo or some kind of PP work around the top and end of the tail. I started to say that the HA was slightly off, but the more I look at it, the more it looks ok. Is it possible that the bill is a tiny bit softer than the shoulder, which seems the area of sharpest focus?

I like the low shooting angle, the muted BG and the feeding/open beak pose of the bird. I agree with Bill about the uneven light on the bird; details in the blacks are less towards the rear of the bird. I also might try to tone down the highlights in the FG, but I'm not ure what the best way to do this. I would be thrilled with this image if it were mine.

Hi Guys - Yes the harsh light was less than optimal resulting in some of the blacks are a little detail-less - not much i could do there except for softer light. - Could have used a flash I guess but not too keen on laying in salt water and using a flash ;)

Lance, agree with Pete and Bill. Shooting angle, love it, BG, great. Lighting angle is less than ideal but you made the best of it.

It's a lovely image, and like Bill, I'ld be happy to have this in my collection.

How did you go with the birds bill? I find that it's is nearly always overexposed even when some exp comp is dialed in.
