Water levels are too high and birds are now scarce down from thousands to 250 :(
This was taken last week. Canon Mark IV 500 f/4 with 1.4C TC, ISO 400, 7.1, 1/2000s

Lloyd, liked the low angle, pose and tight crop. Focus seems to behind the eye...which I can totally see why. These birds are fast and constantly on the move and with the bird angled towards you any small movement will cause that.
In addition to the above--wonderful wings-up action, this one could use a bit of CCW rotation. For those following along this is an adult. Faded salmon breast with barred flanks.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I always aim to get the focus on the eye. My techs were set up for something other than this shot. No time to increase DOF and still get the image. Was pleased with what I got. I could put in a spot of light in the eye but feel it looks a bit false. Yes Denise, I'm always down and dirty in the muck of Jamaica Bay and love it :D. Artie, I use the water by the Dowitchers feet as my horizon and I'm trying figure where you see the horizon line that needs CCW. I'm not challenging, just trying to learn.
PPS Denise, I saw a few images from Grace from Nickerson tonight and the skimmers were flyng. I think I'll be there tomorrow evening. Can you make it???:)
Hi Lloyd, Thanks for getting back to me. I did some Eye Dr. work; it does not look too bad. Though image quality is excellent there were not a lot of pixels to work with. I could have done better with the optimized file but don't send it :) I leveled it as you did but saw the slant in the concentric ovals differently; this resulted in a .66 CCW rotation. As for the d-o-f, there is a good chance that what folks are seeing is motion blur in the primaries.
As for your good attitude, it is a good one :) When I first started posting years ago I was very defensive. Then I started being more open to folks negative comments and began learning. Still though, some folks invent stuff so that they can take a shot at Mr. Famous Photographer. In those cases I choose to defend myself :)

I should have added that pretty much everyone here at BPN has a great attitude and is open to learning.

Lloyd, like this a lot.nice low angle and action well caught. The slight blur on wing tips adds to image. A catch-light would improve greatly.
Best regards

Oops!! Just scrolled and see Artie's addition of catchlight which does indeed lift image greatly. RW
