Hi don - Good HA, Eye Contact and Pose- sharp as a tack and love the detail. A little bright in a couple of spots perhaps - might have dialed the flash back just a tad more. Could get rid of one of the catchlights in the eye.
Nice detail in the eye - lots to like here.
    Good show :)

This is killer good. I thought that you lived in NJ??? Where was this taken? Is this a Rufous? Love the sort of spotlit effect. Rather than dialing back the flash simply running a reverse S curve might soften the look a bit.

How did you meter the scene? It would be relatively easy to eliminate the two broken branch stubs with some Quick Masks.

Don, a couple of other suggestions for you...

I think the image would feel better "weighted" if the bird were a little lower in frame and adding a little more canvas to the top. I also feel a bit of blending of the lighter greens into the darker greens would be nice if you know how to do that. If not, let me know and I can give you some suggestions.

Lovely hummer! I don't remember when I've seen one this still and so detailed!

Thanks Don. However you did it, the EXP looks pretty good. Where was the bird photographed? Do you know the species?

Thanks Don, That's where I was headed. We ask that posters let folks know if a subject is captive or was attracted in some manner :) I do believe that it is a male Rufous Hummingbird.

No problem Artie, in butterfly world they are everywhere, in the trees over head. There are feeders in the aviary, however this image was captured over by one of the water falls, as i walked by i saw him perched; i was shootin macro prior; 100mm Macro lens,SO I had my twinn lite flash on, and turned and shot the sheriff.
Cool little bugger....Butterfly world is a cool place, it's just hotter than...
