Default Black Shouldered Kite, Staring in Flight

This black shouldered Kite was searching for small animals on the Serengeti, Tanzania. It came close to our safari vehicle, staring at the ground. Then suddenly it looked straight at me.

Canon 1D Mark II and 500 mm f/4 L IS lens plus a 1.4x teleconverter giving 700 mm at f/5.6. Exposure: 1/800 second at ISO 100.

Great eye contact and pose. I might crop a bit off the bottom.

I love the eye contact, really spectacular. I would crop more to a 2:3 ratio.

I cropped to 4 ratio (makes nice 16x20-inch prints).
