This bird was a real surprise this afternoon. After the arrival of 3 new Red-necked Stints and a Ruddy Turnstone last week, this bird had arrived with an additional 10 RNS' during the week. That coupled with the fly over of 5 Eastern Curlews heading south (I think their heading Lance's way ;) ), and the odd Albatross certainly made up for freezing my **** off standing and kneeling in the nice cold water!
I would've preferred if this bird wasn't walking away from me, but maybe next time.
Sounds like you're having an exciting week, Mark! Yes, he's walking away but he turned his head for you - that was nice of him!
Compositionally, I really like this image. It feels very balanced in the frame and your choice of aperture left you with water at his feet that draws your eye right to him. I do think you might have missed his eye being directly in the focal plane though as it appears his mid-body is the sharpest area and the head feels a tiny bit soft. Might give it a little more selective sharpening. Nice catchlight in the eye BTW!
Hi Mark - no worries mate send em down to me - Ill look after em - dont know what they are going to do as Im 3 1/2 hours from the ocean but sure would be fun.
Lots to like here - head turn makes it work along with the eye contact. Exposure looks good - think I would selectively sharpen the bird some more - Im sure you could coax some more detail out of it.
looking forward to seeing more :)
Sorry Lance, I thought you were around near Werribee. I heard of some newly arrived Stints at the poo pond in the last week, I was commenting that the Curlews would be joining them soon.
