Hand Held Shutter Speed Blur

Hand holding the 400 DO at 1/8 sec. assured a nice degree of blurring as it is impossible to make a sharp image with that set-up hand held :)

ISO 200. Evaluative metering +2 1/3 stops: 1/8 sec. at f/22.

Sanderlings and one Semipalmated Plover at Nickerson Beach on the JBWR/NB IPT co-led by Denise.

The key here was choosing the central AF sensor in the bottom row. This enabled me to include the breaking wavelets in my COMP.

One of my favorites from the trip. I love the Semipalmated Plover that is in the LRC corner and the waves that are located at the top ULC. I might evict the streak at the bottom if it were mine.

Hi Artie, what I really like is the mix of out of focus, slightly out of focus, and pretty close to in focus birdies. This, to me, adds interest. Was that a bird running through the lower center of the frame? At first I thought it was two reflections, but then realized that they are mirror images, so it must be a peep on the run!

I think that you are right Kerry, a running bird double blur. Denise, were you referring to that or to the very thin black streak below it?

Hi Artie, excellent composition here. In addition to the birds in focus and oof, i can see why the inclusion of the wave balances the image. I also like how you chose the AF. To me this image is a great study in blur and composition. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your kind words. Both Denise and I felt that it was fortunate that the sharpest bird in the lower right balanced the wave in the upper left so nicely.

Greetings. I particularly like the color palette on this one, orange-blue color contrast... along with the detail contrast. There is also a subtle tunnel depth (particularly if one mentally accepts the first/second little waves as a horizon and the larger waves as clouds)... TFS...
