Default MINWR Reddish Egrets No. 2

Photographed at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, FL this past weekend.

Due to the presence of Reddish Egret rookies in the area, MINWR has had an increasing number of Reds at it this time of year. Mostly first year youngsters learning the ropes though the adults are around too.

I spotted over 25 of them in this area with as many as 6 in close proximity to each other and when that happens, you do get some fireworks. I created a whole series of images that morning, all backlight, all high-contrast. Some so strong the colors were skewed and washed out. Those got a monochromatic treatment, some like this the subtle reds of the egret showed through.

As the birds are molting, they are not at their best, hence the reduced colors as well. In any event, a lot of interesting activity that morning.

This image is No. 2 in my series. The BG Reddish flew in and immediately went to chasing the one in the FG.

I will be cloning out the small water bubbles and minor debris for my website posting and printing.

Robert, this is a fantastic image. Big congrats on obtaining something different and beautiful. I'd be curious to see what the 3:2 aspect ratio version looks like but the crop you've chosen works for presentation here.

    Cheers,

    Hi Robert,

I find this stunning! The overall composition is effective. The placement of the birds in frame works very well in my opinion. The action captured creates interests while the back lightening add an artistic feel. Well seen and captured! Thanks for sharing.

Love the chaser bird and the high key look. It has been a while since I was at Merritt I. A small crop from the bottom might strengthen it....

A very unusual look to it overall, it's very pleasing to my eye.

It is obviously technically well executed, I'm curious about the exif data?

Sorry about that. My m9ind must have been elsewhere that day as I always post that information. OP updated to include it. Thanks Joel.
