Started with a wild rose (offset slightly to bend your mind a little :)) and added 2 texture layers and masks for BG color and leaf "veins" @ various opacities. Lots of variables to consider with this mixing. Great theme!

Hi Steve, Great effect with the flower and monochrome BG. I love the antique, gold leaf colors. I might tone down the two light stems in the BG.
Agree with Christopher with the stems. This is really lovely … I like the stamens, they seem to have a life of their own.
Hi Steve, I love the flower center but then it is downhill from there for me.... Wish that the petal on our right were on the same plane as the other four. The flower looks a bit motley and the antique yellow effect does not work well with the pinks and purples (for me).
Kudos for trying something new.

Steve, I love the BG color and the lighting. The URC is very interesting. I might take most of the left side off if it were mine. I think the aging flower goes well w/ the antiqued look of the BG. Nicely done.:)
Thanks everyone for sharing your time, comments and vision. Always helpful.
Artie, the rose was past it's prime (like me :D) and I'm afraid the blends accentuated it's flaws (er... I mean age).
Sort of like a portrait in florescent light with a tungsten light balance.
But maybe... motley = antiqued = grunge (the current fad)?????
denise, I like the idea of shifting the comp and letting the URC shine. Thanks!
Hilary and Christopher, Thanks for the heads up on the stems... quick fix :)
Steve, I'm going to agree with some of the above comments and disagree with others. I like the contrast of the vibrant stamens against the fading petals. I think it is interesting. I would suggest a much more green color for the background, but then you would have to change the name. ;)

Hey Steve, Different strokes. I am glad that everyone else loved this one. As I have said before (and gotten in trouble for saying it), "No accounting for taste." In this case, mine :)
