This bird was quite happy to pose for a picture. It was taken around noon, so I was pleasantly surprised to see some detail in the whites.

Hi Mark - have done well in spite of the light - exposure looks good with detail in the blacks and whites in check.
Like the open beak pose and sharp as a tack to boot!
    Like it!!

Agree with Lance, really nice exposure and sharpness. What a great bird Mark!!

I wonder if you could coax some detail out of that eye with a bit of lightening? I have a feeling you could!

I didn't think about the eye, I'll have a look at it when I get home tonight.

Very nice, Mark. Even though the head isn't directly turned towards us the image is really strong and provoking. I love the open mouth - this IMO really makes the image stronger than most because it's a pose we don't see often. I also like how the mouth creates a "triangle" with the URC.

Love the detail in the eye that the repost brought out.

Nice repost Mark. You were subtle with your eye work which is good- too much and you can get a very strange, unnatural look.

And BTW I consider dodging the eye as standard darkroom practise. If you needed a bit more detail in shadow areas on the photographic paper you would expose a little bit less in those areas using a (moving) wand or your hand to block the light from the enlarger. It's great to be back in the (digital) darkroom again!

Sometimes (as here) having the head square to the imaging sensor is the best head angle... Great job with the WHITEs in the ORIG and the eye in the re-post. Those WHITEs are bright and white but they have detail and I love them.
