I tried to make this a "mood piece", and think I failed. It was a beautiful morning today, but the sun angle was wrong (and patchy), and the HA a bit off (I think). I tried for a rosy, dreamy hue here. I guess I was inclined to post the image because though I get a lot picturing an egret with its catch, very few show the instant when the little fish is clearly in mid-air prior to its being swallowed.

And the post on my monitor does not show the fish very clearly . . .

Any PP suggestions that might improve this image? Or is it a loser?

    Thanks,
    Wendell

Wendell, You did have some good timing getting the fish in mid air! I think the BG elements are a bit distracting and I do wish the bird were facing us a bit more. As presented I might evict the branches in the back ground that are in the center and to the right of the bird. I might try to sharpen the eye and bill just a little if it were mine.

Lovely light and mood and great timing to get the rather cool fish in mid-air. Is that a big dust spot above the base of the bill?

With the poor head angle and the mixed lighting--both no-nos for me, this one does not work for yours truly.

I don't see the dust spot, Artie, but I accept that it's there.

My inclination was right -- I'll mark this one off as a loser . . .

Not sure if it is a big dust spot or something o-o-f in the water. It is just above the base of the upper mandible. Heck, I'd accept this as a good learning experience and a near miss.
