    Default Selous (Giraffe Heaven?)

We are off to Tanzania ( Selous, Mikumi, Ruaha and Saandani) tomorrow, so I thought one or rather two of their phenomenal Giraffe population would be appropriate.

Taken in Selous National Park 16th September, 2004

    EOS 1D MkII

    100-400mm at 400mm

    F9, 1/200, ISO 200

I am sure I can do better this time:D

Have a good trip - nice variety of destinations and a good time of year to go, I'm sure. No doubt too, you will do even better this time, but this is really a very cool picture - great giraffe looks and both faces right in line with the necks is very neat. Does cropping to the first giraffe's chest do anything for you... discovered it by accident but thought it brought the faces more to my attention.

Edit: If you've had it since 2004 you're probably not looking for cropping advice, so just the "have a good trip" bit. :o

    Paul,

The main problem is in my ignorance I did not get all of the legs in so this is an attempt to make it look intentional, perhaps even further up may be better.

What I particularly liked was the difference in patterns.

What I have learnt from this forum will hopefully make it a little easier.

    Ken,

Unique perspective in this very creative composition. I felt it was a bit soft so donwloaded it to try some sharpening, but also tried some recrops. I like how you did the crop in the OP, so I vote for not change there. Some more sharpening is needed on the giraffe's.

    Interesting variation here.
Have a great trip Ken, don't suppose you'll still be there when my wife and I arrive (Nomads/SSC) Oct 8?

I love that composition and the colors and patterns make it one of the best giraffe photos I've seen!

Peter's suggested crop might work but I love the original post. And the image. With the great juxtaposition and the two sharp animals this one is quite powerful. Good luck in besting this one.
