    Default Software help

New to the digital world. I have a Canon 40D and the software that came with it. What software should I buy and learn? Plus should I use my student ID to buy through Academicsoftware. Thanks John

Breeze Browser(www.birdsasart.com) is a popular image viewer/downloader/catalog program and of course Photoshop(www.adobe.com).

    John,
By all means use your student status to get a break on the software. If you are just starting out, photoshop elements may be all you need, but if you get serious, then photoshop will do a lot more as James said. If you shoot raw (and there are many advantages to do so), then you may find other programs like breeze browser of use. There are many ways to do the job. You could watch the threads here and see what people use, or if there is a camera club near you, you could join and see what people use and probably get first hand look at how various programs look and see what best fits your desires.

If you run a Mac rather than Windows, I've found Photo Mechanic to be absolutely superb image management software. Breezebrowser does not run on Macs. I use Photo Mechanic and Photoshop. Photoshop is quite affordable with the academic discount (Photo Mechanic is affordable without it!).
