Hi Roy - looks sharp and has great detail. I would crop a lot of the empty space off the rhs and would like more space on the lhs where the mallard is looking. It also looks like there is a slight halo. Like the catchlight and the color of the bg.

    TFS,

Hi Roy - lots to like here - Agree with Rachel - normally you want more space in front of the bird than behind - too much negative space behind the bird here for my tastes - that said - Lovely detail - exposure looks Good and HA is on the money.
Like the catchlight in the eye - a different crop will improve this.
Looking forward to seeing a repost.
    Keep em coming .

I totally agree with the others. Even though you have a beautiful BG here a closer crop putting his head more towards the URC would be nice to help balance out the weight of the body within the frame. I tried a crop where the frame ended just past the right side of his body, taking off a bit from the top and a lot from the right.

I really like how the feathers are wet hear the neck and breast - that really added a lot more textural interest to the photo.

I think so! I really feel this balances the weight of the duck within the frame much better. The important thing is...do YOU like it better?

Roy - I agree that in my opinion the repost is better but it's more important what you think. Btw what's the blue dot?

Julie, I actually prefer the original but I would crop it more from the right hand side as suggested.:)

Lovely image Roy. I prefer the original post over the second one.

    Hi Roy
    I'm with mark.
May be vertical crop of the first post works better.
Any way, nice portrait with excellent detail & HA.

Great details. I would crop tighter on the right side and just stop before the blue feather. Is this really Mallard? Could it be Mottled Duck?

Troy, thanks for the suggestion. I'm sure it's a Mallard. Don't think we have Mottled ducks in B.C.
