I thought these cranes sort of lent themselves well to a little added pp. Topaz Adjust using the small detail filter.

    Hi Peter,
Yes, this was at Bosque del Apache, New Mexico. The crane pools that are on the road before you get to the NWR.
    Thanks for your comments!

Bonnie, the colors and lighting are gorgeous and I like the Topaz effect. It would have been nice if the top layer of vegetation didn't intersect the cranes so they would have had a blue bg but it's a gorgeous image as presented.:)

Bonnie, I love this image and the Topaz really brought out the detail. Beautiful HA and color toning. The layered BG looks very nice. Some may say that the heads are merging w/ the BG line but it doesn't bother me at all. This is fantastic!

Very nice Bonnie. Great composition , colors, subject matter, and enhanced detail. A great example of why I 've been a fan of Topaz Adjust small detail preset!! Also the base image must have had very good detail to begin with, since detail can't be enhanced if it doesn't exist. Good Job!

Bonnie, this is very nicely done. I like the details and muted color. I was at Bosque last November and I know these ponds! Well done!

May I ask you a question? what is the focal length will you recommend? will 400mm/f5.6 (cannot use extender) be OK for the distance for cranes?? Thanks.

Hi John, This was taken with the 500 and a 1.4 extender--on the 7D, so there was quite a bit of reach. You will be able to get some cranes up close with the 400---but these guys were still quite a reach.
Lots of 400 out there--but most people seem to have longer lenses as well.
    Hope this helps.
