Lesser Yellowlegs from Jamaica Bay on Friday, demonstrating his 'disappearing-behind-the-cloak' trick. I wasn't prepared when he took off, and he was a split second past me when I got off a single shot. C&C appreciated.

Wow, Bill! I can see a few ways to improve on the image but I also see several things that you got right on such short notice. The shutter speed looks pretty good - you got the water drops to freeze as well as almost all of the bird. I also like that we can see so much of him - the eye, the belly, the legs, and those wings. Nice job getting a catch light as well.
I think a little lower angle to the wings would have given you a bit more face for the viewer to connect to and that always strengthens an image. I also think there is a bit of noise on the wings and belly area - you might be able to fix that in pp.
Agree that this guy is just a little past you and angled a little away by the looks of it. The feet look a little blurred - would have thought the SS could have been enough to freeze the action - unless you were quite close.
The closer you get to the action - the higher the SS required to freeze the action (and Vice Versa)
Wing position is not ideal - but do like that you still have a clear view of the eye.
Thanks Jules and Lance. This was not a huge crop, but large enough; this is about 60% of FF as posted. Obviously past me and not the ideal wing position - wish I had responded more quickly - but I really posted it because I thought the unintentionally-captured pose was sort of humorous. I did notice the noise. I ran NR on the BG only. Topaz DeNoise 5.0 is getting pretty good at removing noise while retaining most detail, so I should try a version with some NR on the body. Thanks for the comments.
