These are one of the noisiest birds around. They frequent gardens and have a distinctive call. This was taken this morning at a birding spot in Johannesburg. The BG is OOF reeds, grasses, and water. The big question - DOES THIS WORK? I realise he is flying away, but I feel I have captured enough detail wingspread, and there is eye contact. This angle may even be better than the normal side on view. Your comments would be appreciated.
Cool bird Stuart. I don't think I have ever seen a photo of this bird before. The bg is fantastic and to me really makes the shot. The bird flying away and the beat up feathers detract from the image, but the great bg and unusual bird might make this a keeper anyway.
As Jim mentioned, this is a lovely background, like the IQ with details and subtle colors in the bird. I think the image could be very effective when combined with others of the same bird, to show various details of him. As a solo, it still works, because of the great colors, but not as strong as a different pose might be.
The BG is very nice, as is the light. While I agree that you've captured the wing detail quite well, this shot would only be a keeper for me if it showed detail not visible in a more conventional image of the bird. Or, as Jim points out, if it were a rare bird.
Great sharpness and colours Stu. Like the comp and exposure is nailed with a killer bg. This is a beautiful bird thats ofter over looked. A angle to wards you would've been better.
