Saw this Hawk while driving past City Park in Norfolk, Va. around 8 in the morning. He was sitting on the soccer goal watching the traffic driving by. Allowed me to walk up to around 10 yards before giving up his spot.

    Hi Kenn,
An exciting subject to shoot! This is a case because of the light angle it made it tough causing for some major shadows alittle FF would of really helped. Was it possible as you approached the Hawk to take a position on the side best lite from the sun? I tried opening up the shadows in Nikon Capture Nx and cropped to a vertical taking away the area to the left and putting more attention on your subject. I also used another round of USM. I hope you like it. I hope to see more images in the future....:)

Another for the re-post !!!! The hawk is the important part of image and want to see more of him !!!! James advice for sun angle is sound Normally I will go to sun angle before making an image Would rather have the bird fly away while I'm moving into positon than making the image off angle

I see a cast in the feathers Should be easy to correct !!! Nice catch and hoping to see many more !!!!

btw if you can pm me your full name I will be doing the member update We would like to have all members with full names or at lest two initials and last name Thanks

James' crop certainly made a fine difference in this image. Lighting most often can make or break an image so it's certainly one of the first things that I check before shooting. I think you have a nice start with this one.

Many thanks James. I believe the crop does improve the overall quality of the photograph by cutting back on the amount of BG detracting from the subject .I tried to get some of the shadow off also but was not able to do so with the software (or knowledge) I have. Your improvement is much appreciated .
As I worked my way past and around the trees for a better angle it was too late. I was told by a friend that this hawk is often at the park hunting so I will get another go I am sure as I added the area to my rounds.
Thanks to all who took the time to comment and make suggestions or give advice.
