Thanks for looking, I'm a bit uncertain about the contrast... thoughts?

Michael, I really like the contrast/feel of this image. There are lots of times that a stronger contrast works but the mood and the lighting here suggest a softer contrast and I think you hit it right. If you feel the image lacks a little "pop" you might try to push the yellows a bit more or add a bit of contrast to them so they get more intense and see if that gives you the feel you're looking for. I think the action you caught is wonderful and the shadows along the top of the frame really help keep the eye on the focal point - that beautiful egret!

Nice one. Good sharp action. Nice comp, water, bg and details. I would like a bit more room overall, most needed to the left. Also the image need's a slight CW rotation. Good suggestions from Julie about pushing up the yellows.
    Thanks for sharing.

Michael - that one is gorgeous. Love the bird being flipped in his bill. Congratulations!

Nice one, agree with Julie on POP - make try and play with curves (default settings). Do not forget to use a vertical frame from time to time.

    Jules, Ivan, Pat, Jeff,

Greetings. Thanks much for the comments. Nothing but very overcast mornings (sometimes all day, sigh) pretty much all summer this year... sometimes hard for me to reconcile (in my mind) balancing the soft light with desired detail. Your comments help much with my perspective.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Hi Michael- You captured some good action here- split-second timing was required!

I like the nice soft light shown here. On my calibrated monitor there is an overall yellow/greenish hue. The repost corrects this using the standard LAB colour technique I learned from Dan Margulis' book Photoshop LAB Color. I also applied an S-curve in LAB to increase the contrast a little, and I boosted the yellow a bit as suggested (again in LAB). The ripples give away the need for a slight CCW rotation which I also did while I was at it.

Very well done on this one. The fish looks like a Stickleback BTW!

    John,

Greetings. Thanks much for the repost. I can see, now, what I was unsettled about was mostly in the color (wb). Will work some more on mine...

    Cheers,

    -Michael-
