Really like the forward wings and the extended neck. Perfect head angle. Sharpness, exposure, and DOF are all excellent. I'm not sure why, but I keep wanting to see the image with a slight CW rotation.

    Jan:

Great colors. I particularly love the feathers on the near wing, the pattern in the reds/whites and blacks is very nice.

    Well exposed.

+1 on slight CW rotation, looks like he is going to fall forward.

    Cheers

Agree with comments regarding position of wings and neck/head. Love the reflection. Guess I am not seeing need for rotation - for me, it seems that the bird is going forward for a meal (but don't know).
Seems saturated on my monitor - but have never seen the bird. Are the colors really that rich?

    Jan,

Wonderful image, love the feather detail and the lighting.
    Was it about to fly?

They are filter feeders. They just swing their head back and forth with the bill in the water. Pretty boring stuff usually.

I agree, this is really awesome for the reasons Robert and the other mentioned.

Love the colours and that eye. I'm not sure about the rotation. Judging by the water it looks straight to me.
