I had spent quite a bit of time with this juvi loon in Northern Michigan around July 4th. It is amazing how quickly they grow up. He is adult sized now, and spent time hanging around with his sib. I did not see any parental contact at all ( was with them for about two hours)

Reason: add metering mode
Hi Randy,
This has such a quiet, serene feel to it and a painterly quality which I quite like. Looks to me like a great HA and the drop of water coming off the bill is a very nice touch.
Thanks,
Katie
I came back to this one this morning after it had a big effect on me last night. Very beautiful Randy. That dark BG with the light, almost black and white bird in front gives a stunning look and feel. I see there was no compensation on your exposure- were you in Auto or Manual exp. mode? If Auto, my compliments to the meter in the D300! One thing I can't figure out is why the bill seems a little OOF even though it's in virtually the same plain as the eye and face, which are very sharp.
John, manual exposure 98% of the time, I just forgot to mention it. I am not sure about the bill, but will check it out on the raw file. It has little texture or detail, unlike the body, so perhaps it is an optical illusion.
I should have mentioned, this was taken from a boat. In this one, "Looney Too". I am experimenting with different setups to work the loons, have a few more to post from last weekend.
