Another photo from the rtip to Norway in June. This was taken on the tundra off a dirt track somewhere between Vadso and Vardo. These birds are usually very nervous but this one seemed intrigued by the sight of the car and came right over and circled several times at close range which was a pleasure.

Like the feet on the rock and the HS. Stockier than our American Golden Plover. But just as handsome. The slightly darker rocks behind the head are less than ideal (but at least they act as a frame.)

I like the foot up on the rock too. The background doesn't really bother me but Artie makes a good point about the dark spots. I love to see the breeding plumage so colorful. This looks better than the text book images that I have to ID them. My only thought would be to try to pull some detail out of the darks under the belly.
The breeding plumage is displayed well here. I like the raised foot and sharpness. The exposure looks great. I think Denise makes a good point about the dark under belly. Great shot.
Happy memories Rich as this was a strange encounter where the bird was as interested in us as we were of him.
I love the position of the foot on the rock and the complimentary colours in the BKGR. I might add a little more to the top just to give a bit more breathing space. Otherwise perfect.
Many thanks for the comments. The good point about the bird circling the car is that we were able to capture the bird in a whole range of settings. It was a very memorable encounter.
