Thought I'd share this with my friends. We said farewell to our giant kitty, James, on Tuesday. In early March, he was dx'd with a very agressive form of cancer. At that point, we elected to remove the tumor and give him at least a chance to recover, and at minimum a good summer. Well, he did indeed enjoy himself, and spent most of his spring and summer in good form, relaxing with us and with his two dogs. However, in early June, his tumor came back with a vengance and in multiple places, growing and spreading like wildfire. We vowed that once we saw changes in his routine, when he stopped doing the things that he loved, that would be our sign. So Tuesday was the day. He died peacefully, assisted by an elderly vet who came to our home. His last hour was spent eating tuna, getting pats from his people, and being gently sniffed by his two dogs, both in life and in death.
Thanks, Jim and Denise. You're right, Jim. We were here to serve him, he would not even eat his food until we mounded it up in his dish. Flat was no good. But it all worked out, and he gave far more than he got. His death was perfect. Just sad for us!
Grace, I am so sorry for your loss. You are right, our pets do always seem to give far more than they get, and it is those kitty idiosyncasies that make them so special (I understand about the mound!!)
Warmest regards,
Nicki
Sorry to hear Grace.
I lost my dog to cancer this week (has not been a great week) so I know how difficult it is.
Hang tough. It sucks how much you can miss a pet.
James
PS When I saw the title I thought oh no another thread with a picture of me.
When I opened the thread, my first thought was this - this is a much better picture of me than the one Rene posted.
Looks as if the cat loved you guys as much as you loved him. I lost Sugar, a living link to my late wife Elaine, about two years ago. This NOV 20 will mark 16 years that Elaine has been gone. Will celebrate her memory again this year at Bosque--that will be 16 straight.
