    August 10, 2010, Commack, NY—[/B]Tamron announced another advance in the company's pursuit of high resolution images in the telephoto lens category with the release of its anniversary model 70-300mm F/4-5.6 telephoto zoom lens featuring VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization and an ultrasonic auto-focus drive –– USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive). The SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005) high-resolution DSLR telephoto zoom lens is available for the Nikon mount, with the development of compatible mounts for Canon and Sony to follow.

    XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) lens element
    USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) with full time manual focus
    VC (Vibration Compensation)
    BBAR (Broad-Band Anti Reflection) multilayer coatings

    It will be interesting to see how it compares to the current Nikon 70-300mm. The Nikon has a reputation for been a very sharp lens at a really low price. A little competition is always a good thing.

    I have used 70-300VR of Nikon and can say that's value for money lens. Excellent sharpness and solid VR, IMHO if this lens is as good as Nikon , then pricing will be very crucial. TFS this

    Right now Amazon.Com has it for $449.00 USD with a $50.00 rebate.
    $399 net!

    That's very competitive price ( I am comparing with India price of Nikon , we get 70-300 VR for nearly 600$)

    We bought the 70 300 ED VR just when this was first announced, at about 500$. Let's see if the reviews give us any cause to regret not waiting!

    However, as for the 70-300, no regrets whatsoever, it's a great combination of affordability/portability/reach.
