    Default Reddish Egret

I was out in the kayak this morning and came across a Reddish Egret perched on a piling in the middle of a flooded mudflats area. I was surprised when it allowed me to drift in close enough that I could've knocked it off its perch with my paddle if I'd wanted to! Canon 40D, Bigma @ 500mm. Somehow I bumped the iso up a bit higher than I'd have liked... iso 1250... live and learn. f/8.0, 1/1600. RAW conversion via Bridge CS3, sharpening and curves applied in Photo Shop, noise reduction via Noiseware Community edition.

I really like the nice pose on this one as well as the bg.

I wonder how a tiny slice off the right would look.

Photo has a very nice feel to it. Well done.

Hi Bob Sweet pose and perfect parallel head position !!! Colors look a bit washed out and the high ISO is not helping any !!! Wold like seeing the contrast increased but might bring in noise !!

Beautiful preening pose. Congratulations on getting so close. I agree that a bit of contrast bump might help, if it is possible; otherwise a lovely image. btw your signature line begins to overwhelm the bird IMHO, but that's personal taste.

Anytime I run an image through Noiseware the colors seem to go dull. Maybe it's my settings in that program, maybe it's a trait of it. Not sure. Up to that point the image seemed oversaturated if anything. Still trying to get a handle on that one. Frankly, color has been giving me fits lately. I know I have PS set-up for sRGB... ok I'm 90% sure. I can't find a place to set/change color space in Bridge CS3 to save me. Have no idea if it's somehow switching the files to aRGB or not. But for some reason, and it's only been the last few months, I seem to get a little color surprise everytime I post an image!!! Very annoying,

Hi Bob - I d/l the image and it is in RGB not SRGB - so somewhere there it is being assigned RGB.
How are you saving for the web?? Not being assigned there is it??

I normally just resize at resolution of 100 and, for verticals, a height of 600... add 6 px of canvas around the image... place the watermark... save at a quality that will result in a file of 200 or smaller.

I went back to the full size JPG... after the work in post had been done... rechecked settings and found that color was set to "preserve embedded" rather than converting to working space, changed that and tried again... nope, still muted the colors. Let me try "save for web and devices."

The color looks a bit brighter in this version, which matches how I processed it. The thing that bothers me is I didn't used to get a color shift when I save images without using "save for web..". Something changed somewhere and I'm not sure what it was.

I am as confused as you are by the color issues but I do like the image, especially the perfect preening head angle. Was the image created in NC?
