I think the answer to the question posed by my Title is that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. There are few things I enjoy more than a newly opened sunflower. But as the flower develops, the petals brown and droop, and the seeds ripen, I tend to look elsewhere for inspiration. But to a visiting goldfinch, that old flower with its tasty seeds truly is a thing of beauty!
Although this image captured in part of our vegetable garden is "busy", I intentionally left most elements as they were (except for a few distractions cloned out above the bird), because I wanted you to see the environment in which our visitor dined.
I don't mind the busy setting in this one at all. Composition, light, sharpness and eye contact look very good and the not so fresh sunflower adds to it.
This would make an interesting subject without the bird. I like the bird and the flowers, and at first glance the bg seemed a bit much. But after viewing it a few times, I like it very much!
I kind of agree...the business doesn't bother me so much. It seems like theres a little halo, maybe left over from cloning? Just above the birds tail? Love the overall colors though, very nice shot!
Very nice painterly feel to this, dead flowers are OK with me (almost a dead flower myself :) ) very nice head angle and eye contact. Thanks for sharing, Norm.
