    Default Camera-shy Baboon

Captured this juvenile next to the Shingwedzi river in the Kruger Park last December. There are always baboons cajoling along this stretch of road that runs next to the river and takes you to the Shingwedzi Rest Camp. The Northern part of Kruger is always less crowded and worth the extra distance to travel.

We had many overcast and rainy days during the trip, this was one of them.

Nice capture Morkel, with good detail and colour where it counts. Overcast days can be a blessing at times.

Could perhaps stand a fraction off the top which would reduce the white vertical running through just above the head?

Very nice, Mork! I love that forlorn expression!

A few ideas for post ...

    Morkel,

I thought there was more detail to bring out, and Dvid's repost has done that, but I think the baboon is a little too light.

    David,

What I would like to know is how you turned the white sky blue?

Personally Morkel I prefer the OP, but with Davids 'handywork' in PS adding the blue, it really does just finish it off. A combination between the two, would I guess, be ideal.

Thanks David for the info, very useful, but again, for me it needs to be thought about when applied and tweaked to suit, rather than just a blanket application.

thanks for the feedback everyone, and Dave for applying your masterful touch...I love what you did to the details on the baboon, I probably should have done a bit more but with my PC at the doctor I am left with a less-than-ideal screen to view my work on since my laptop can't handle my external LCD (port is broken).

I don't like the "blue-ification" that much but I guess that's just taste :)...I remember a high-key sky in this scene and that's what I tried to convey.

Might be useful to have add this in on the OP Morkel, as it is an important fact within your image and would help the reader. ;)

    Thanks

Thanks David Turning the sky blue seems easy but in reality a big deal !! .. good work and thanks for the links !!

For this I prefer the original only because it supports the mood, I get the feel of a soft day and blue skies don't go along !! Do like the lighter animal but just a bit less a Ken pointed out !!

Like the pose and look Morkel, those guys are photogenic !!!

What prompted me to try the blue was Steve's comment about cutting off some of the white vertical above the subject's head. I can't say I'm wild about the blue either, but I'm an experimenter. I don't really settle on anything unless I'm playing for keeps. I've learned more from (failed) experiments than anything else!

And that's probably why you are so good at applying all kinds of post-processing wizardry...:) great attitude and I am also all for trying much...
