You can calculate the power required with Ohm's law. P = I V (Power = Current x Voltage)
Using my laptop as an example, it takes 19V at 4.74A so would theoretically need 90W of power. It's less because it's not going to be 100% efficient and that assumes everything in it is running full power. NiMH battery chargers are going to require considerably less.
