I live in the south coast resort town of Bournemouth UK. I am retired at the grand old age of 42 as I had a little joust with brain cancer a few years ago. This has left with me with minor but inconvenient disabilities which prevent me from driving, diving and remembering where I have put my keys!
Prior to retiring I was a tenured member of faculty at Bournemouth University teaching environmental courses to business students and primarily educating other faculty about online learning.
This was very much a second career as I had previously worked in nature conservation having gained a BSc in Environmental Studies and an MSc in Advanced Ecology and worked for the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, the pre-curser to what is now Natural England and on an online education project for the EarthWatch Institute. It was the last that diverted my carer path.
So I now have the time and resources to do what I really really wanted to do as a kid, nature photography and I don't have to make it pay, the only drawback is having to lug tripods and long lenses on buses.
I shoot with Nikon D300 at the moment (under review) mostly shoot with 600mm VR although I have just bought the 200-400 vrII and 105 macro. I use NX2, LR3 & PSCS5 on a mac pro and macbook air.
Subject wise, if it is living or has been then its a potential subject, except big hairy spiders:confused::(
Sorry I haven't got a decent recent pic, I will try and get one done the week after next when I am seeing my sister who is a pro documentary/travel photographer of some repute, always supposing she hasn't got mould growing on the sensor of her Hasselblad
Welcome to BPN, Andrew! Must be great to have so much time now and if there is decent public transportation, it might not be too bad to get to places. I look forward to seeing some of your images.
