... and a good one Charles Did not see the exp comp but seems like you could have gone even more !! You want to be able to see the eye clearly and the bg will be solid white 255 !! Like the pose very much and wing position !!! Elegant image !!!
Thank you Alfred, I forgot to add the eV in there....oops!!! :D In camera it was set to +0.7, and in this re-edited version I increased it by 1 more.
I burned the black on the head, and dodged the eye both by 10%.

Thanks Charles .... will find most of these will be made at way over plus one and up to two and two thirds over. Do need heavy overcast for making !!! Remember in the histogram you will be blowing the entire sky but the bird will be ok !!! ... re post looks much better !!!
Thanks for that tip Alfred. The camera was actually set up for shooting polar bears when a large flock of terns decided that the remains of a half eaten seal would be a good place to be! I took advantage of the fact, and thankfully was able to recover in post!
Hi Charles - AL pretty much nailed it - dont be afraid of that + Compensation when required - Ive had situations were I have been shooting at +3.7 to get high key.
Love the pose - wing position works really well - IMHO.
For my personal tastes a little more sharpening could bring out some more detail.
:)
This is a beauty ... love that wing position!
As for the sky and the eye, you can always cheat!! :D

Thanks Lance, as for sharpness, it suits my needs in the full frame (not for web) size :D
David, I do like the blue sky, but I think the eye you PP'd in there looks a little bit fake (TOO BLACK). I have quite a way to go yet when it comes to post, and getting that blue background like that is something I'd like to learn one day.
Thanks for showing me!
I agree about the eye looking fake. Here's a little tutorial on making a white sky blue:

You can download a simple action here that sets up Selective Color automatically for this effect:
