    Default Tyrant Flycatcher id help

    Hi,

I was hoping for an id confirmation. I shot this at Santa Cruz Island in Channel Islands National Park back in January. After scratching my head for an hour I concluded that this must be an Ash-throated Flycatcher. Is this right?

    Thanks!

    Caesar,

While a bit out of normal range, the Dusky-Capped Flycatcher has been sighted along the lower California coastal region periodically. The thin straight bill, rounded head, dark cap, brownish auriculars, inconspicuous wing bars and somewhat stronger cast to the yellow below lead me to the Dusky-Capped conclusion. Hearing the call would really help with this ID.

My guess is Say's Phoebe. The color isn't right on the belly but the head shape, bill shape and the dark tail make this look like a Say's to me.

It's a Say's Phoebe. The shape is all wrong for any Myiarchus; they will never show a smoothly rounded head like this bird.
