Photographed at a halfpipe freestyle skiing competition in 2007. The pillar in the back measures the height from the deck of the halfpipe. The halfpipe itself was 15 feet deep I think. Crazy kids. JR

You're right about the reds. I went back and looked at the Raw and JPEG (was shooting both at the same time) and the Raw is fine but the JPG is blown. Didn't know better at the time...

    Thanks all for the comments!

Great action shot and I love the angle. Trying to figure out your position in the pipe to get this. Looks like he's gonna come down on top of you  I'm also curious as to if you used a polarizer. The skiers goggles are dark on one lens and bright on the other. Is it just the snow reflected in the bright side? cool effect.

This was photographed with the Canon 30D and 70-200F4 at 200 mm (no cropping) across the halfpipe. I was positioned on the other deck. Attached is a picture taken with the 17-55F2.8IS at 55mm (no cropping) during an earlier run of this skier to give you a better feeling for the perspective.

There were some scary moments when I indeed thought a skier may come down on me when they burst into the air on my side of the halfpipe. Got some cool shots.:D

I am not completely sure if I used a polarizer but I doubt it. The bright area in the goggles is most likely a reflection of the deck of the halfpipe. Not so sure though about the dark side...

Glad so many are enjoying this pictures. I hope I'll have an opportunity to shoot this event again this winter.

    Best, JR
