    Photographed at the Wildlife Research Institure in Ramona, CA in January 2010. This immature female Red-tailed hawk had been trapped and banded early in the morning and, along with four other raptors, was displayed to a group of interested observers by a handler (wearing a glove) in an outdoor setting. It was released that afternoon.

    EOS 7D, 300mm f/2.8 L IS, 1/1250", f/7.1, ISO 320, hand held, no flash

    Very nice head portrait in overhead light. Wish it had turned the head towards you a bit, but not sure if that would have darkened the eye some more with the shadow. Great feather detail and tongue out a bonus. TFS.
