From a recent pass through Ontario. The little birds had a nest in a small stump and were flying back and forth with food. They would often sit and wait making a strange noise and strumming their wings very quickly. I think that is where the bit of blur on the wings comes from.
    50D, 500mm, f/4, 1/125, ISO400, EC+1/3. In hind sight I may have tried ISO800 for a bit faster shutter.

What a great capture, you AND the bird! :-) can you bring out more contrast in the bird's feathers, or sharpness? I think it's there, but could be teased out a bit more and it'd make the image pop even more! Thanks for sharing, great job on detail!

Hi Dave, as Sandra says, you captured a nice image and the bird captured its worm, which makes your image even better. I would consider cropping from the top and brightening the dark areas in the BG.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
I had added a bit of contrast to the bird and stopped before I got too far away from what I remember the bird looking like. Perhaps a bit more and some selective sharpening could be used.

I had left the top bg because the perch seemed to get a bit bigger in the photo. I agree it is very green and perhaps I could have used a bit of blur or at least toned down the green some which may have helped with the darker areas as well.

It was a fun and interesting day with several first for me.

    Hi Dave Great comments !!!

Speed wise agree but you did well with the low shutter speed !! Can add it might be over sharpened a bit? ... any clue what he is snacking? ..look like legs !!

    Hi Alfred,

I think it is a "multipede" of some sort. They were busy parents bringing all sorts of snacks of various shapes and sizes.
I don't think it is over sharpened. One pass of USM at 350/.2/0. The wings look a bit blurry to me I think from the fluttering.

    Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave,The bird is sharp, good angle with even light that I might add a bit more contrast to the bird. IMO the subject is too small within the frame. I might crop from the top and left to give the subject more impact...

    Thanks Dave.

I think in the past I would over crop and get too tight so have backed off a bit. It is hard to tell sometimes what is best.
