Caught this shot at the Forsythe NWR in Jersey. I cropped this as a landscape from a vertical format and I'm not sure if it ends up too tight in the frame. Lots of dead space in the vertical though. I always appreciate the guidance here. Does anyone think a square crop would work better? I've done selective sharpening in the eye and beak areas, and toned down the rock in LL corner.
Thanks for all advice.

Tough crop Dave Would crop to taste and forget about square or not .. if it ends up being square it is just fine. About the only time square hurts is with images that have motion, for those a different aspect ration enhances the motion !!!
Here the action is in the catch and a real tight crop would be my choice ... again that should be set up at the time of capture to keep it from being a huge crop !!!
Hi Dave, you have good detail in what looks like overcast lighting.Agree with Al regarding crop to taste. A tighter crop on the head and fish would add impact but it's a concern cropping too much of the original.
If possible "in camera" is the best result as Al stated to avoid that situation...
Thank you Alfred and Dave. I totally agree that it would be best to get the format correct in camera. in this case I was also getting full body shots when this action occured. i didn't want to go too much farther with the crop though. My thought on the square was to possibly allow more room top and bottom. Yes it was a bit overcast that day and I'm happy with what I got. I truly appreciate the time and thoughts from both of you and will use it in future sessions.
