Photographed this last May. This male Eastern Bluebird lost his mate about a week and half before the chicks fled. He did a great job all by himself of taking care of his chicks while battling various Tree Swallows that were trying to take over the nest. It was a great experience for me to be able to witness such beauty in nature.

I kept my distance in order to not cause any stress to them. I cropped the image approx. 30%. basic adjustments and applied NR. There was also a dark area on the top that I removed in pp.
Good story. I had a pair of pileateds in my back yard, the female disappeared shortly after the chicks hatched, and the male toughed it up and fledged both chicks.
Sharp, well exposed, nice comp, food item a plus. Nice all the way around.
Superb. I love everything about this one right down to and including the knot on the trunk!

Very tender moment, and well presented. You coulees take advantage of our size limits and post a bigger image. Sweet intersection, that shows the excitement of the chick. Thanks for sharing, Susan.
Hi Susan, Great wing position, sharp, even lighting, bug in mouth, chick with open mouth waiting to be fed and finally a nicely muted backround. Did I leave anything out? Oh...it's excellent!!
Susan, very well timed to capture the incoming parent, together with the chick, anticipating his food. I also like the two tone BG too. Congrats on a fine image.
Have to agree with all, this is a wonderful image. Great story telling with the image itself and then your added information gives me an even better understanding.

Thank you very much for all your kind comments, I appreciate them very much. Glad to be able to share this one. The next frame I got was him feeding the chick. What a thrill for me!!! The next morning I got to see the Father encouraging the chick to leave the nest and after a few moments of hesitation the chick did. I love nature.:)
