This was taken using my EF 70-200mm f/4L IS lens with the EF 1.4x TC attached, shot in Aperture Priority. This is the Bonsai Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore in January 2010. I cropped a little to cut some sky out and water in the foreground. It was midday and I was positioned at the peak of the beach.

You can see a body in there, but the wave power and board really tell the story of what happened. These are world class surfers, attracted by the big winter surf and the many tournaments around this time of year.

Awesome action! I wish you had a faster shutter speed so the water would be more defined.

one gallon of water ways ~8 pounds. how many gallons do you think are falling on his head!!!!!? that's gotta hurt.

maybe if you could sharpen the board a little more. i really like the capture. the board says it all!!

Like how the surf board is about to be enveloped by that wave!
