I know that there have been a lot of these birds posted recently, but I couldn't help myself and had to post just one more. From Ottawa last weekend while on a trip with Bob Ettinger.

lovely---i think these birds are great never tire of looking at them!
Sweet. Love the whoosh of snow by the feet. Wish of course that the bird was flying more towards you and the light... Was it the wind direction that kept you guys from tossing the mice down the sun angle?

Artie,
The probelm that morning was that there wasn't even a breath of wind. If we had a directional breeze, we could have predicted which way the owl was going to attack from but he just took random approach angles that particular day. There were also some issues with the background in a couple of directions. Shooting with a 70-200, it was going to be hard to blur it out. Bob & I want to go back one more time this season before the birds leave to try and improve on a few things.
Ken
Thanks for the info and good luck. Try this simple approach if possible. Point your shadow at the perched owl and then toss the mouse not to far in front of you. It would seem that they bird would have to fly towards you and towards the light (and the mouse!)
