As soon as the passion flower plants start to show in the grassland prairie these caterpillars are fairly common going through their different stages of life until late fall. Finding them with dew on them is always fun. I used D80 ISO 100 Nikkor AF 105/2.8D f11 @1/8 sec. on a tripod. PP with NX 2.

This is a striking image, Jim. Sharp, good exposure and background, and the all the dew drops plus the dew-covered strand of silk take this to another level. My one small suggestion is that I think the comp would be stronger if the caterpillar was placed farther to the left in the frame. Well done.

Detail, great BG, excellent colors are all there but I agree with Steve that it would look better with a different crop. If you have the canvas, I think it would look better with more on the top and right and less on the left and bottom.

I also agree with the others. It feels like it's too close to the top of the frame and too centered...but...wowie! It's still a terrific image and the dew drops are over the top!

Thanks so much for the comments everyone. I was thinking it had too much room at the bottom so maybe I'm on the right track with my compositions...:D

I think this is a brilliant image, I am always on the look out for something similar but I have never found a chrysalis so photogenic as this one. Focus colours and composition are all beautifully rendered.

Very nice. I like how the colors in the caterpillar match those of the plant stem. Beautiful with the dew. Lovely BG. Changing the crop should make it excellent.
