Forster's Tern (I think!) against the shoreline - with what I believe was orange Witches Hair growing over the green plants. The light was beautiful - and there were so many terns circling around a spillway that it was really hard to pick one and stay focused on it....
cropped in lightroom with Nik Define NR and Sharpening in PS.
any suggestions to improve the image really appreciated...

Excellent wing postions and looks good and sharp !!! A couple of things you might try. Worth going into PS and try a shadow/highlight selecting the wings and head only ... I think you can get a tiny bit more detail around the eye ... also would do away with the shadow from the beak, if it was thicker would try blending in ! Like it a lot !!!
Hi Pat, good suggestions above. I love the wing position and how you placed the subject in the frame. The backround has beautiful coloring and sets the bird off well. Agree on removing the small shadow and sharpening. Nicely done!
thank you very much, all of you!
I went back to the original photo in lightroom and used an exposure brush to try to remove the shadow from the beak - not sure if that was the best way or not. it will take some practice.
and then in ps, i had not ever tried shadows/highlight before - it works counter-intuitively for me, but wow! I love what it did to the wing. And I added some additional unsharp mask sharpening.
I think your suggestions very much improved it - thank you again!
Greetings. Extra work (ala Al's comments) looks great. Like the color and wings. The extra contrast in the lhs wing brought out a few bright spots that could be removed - in the middle of the darker part beginning at the end of the spread feathers (vertical middle of wing). Good show!
thank you Michael - now that you mention them, I see them now! I will darken them. Its like the shadow of the bill - i didn't even really notice it until people pointed it out - there are so many things to learn here - I really appreciate everyone's help!
hey Doug, your talk about ways to use lightroom at the workshop was great! Between you and Alan - I will learn this. And the payoff in a much better image makes it all worth it.
