I am considering either the Canon 28-200mm Zoom or the Tamron 28-270 mm Zoom with my Canon 50D for travel. Has anyone had an experience with these lens?
Hi Steve. Either one will work but consider the wide angle component. I find having a wide angle the most important and with either lens you will have a 28 plus crop factor ....44 !!!
For traveling I like something wide ... At least 24 .. And the long end doesn't make all that much difference, will do fine with a 105 Again it will depend on your subject.
I have a Canon 28-300mm lens, I find it to be very useful especially when animals get close (elephants). Obviously the IQ is not as good as a prime and it does not take multipliers. I do not take a lot of WA images and 28mm is not all that wide at 300mm it needs a little stopping down.
It was recommended to me by Andy Rouse before he went to the "dark side".:)
I love the Tamron 18-270 VC. It focuses much faster than most Tamrons I've used.
I shot a cover image for them of a Spoonbill in flight with it.
It is truly an amazing lens.
