Hi Folks,
I haven't posted much lately as most of my high end gear got stolen a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I had an old Canon 20D body and my 100-400mm lens to use while I settle the insurance claim. Here is a shot of a Great Horned Owl at Neck Point Park in Nanaimo taken at around mid day.
Stats: Canon 20D with 100-400mm IS USM Lens, F/8, 1/40sec, ISO 400, hand held.
Very nice owl, like the one horn up, talons showing, wide open expression.
The multiple bright spots in the background really draw the attention, and make the owl appear darker than it really is.
There is some room to tinker with the background to reduce the luminosity levels, but will be a bit of a challenge to make it great.
Great eye contact, sharp and well-framed, Steve. Excellent feather detail. The light circles in the BG and the blurred gray tree trunk are distracting to me. Thanks for sharing this one! Sorry about your gear ...
Sorry about the equipment, hope you didn't have a big deductible...
Terrific eye contact and detail, a bit tight in the frame for my tastes, love the raised ear :)
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your comments. Guess I could tinker a bit in PS to get the background a bit darker. This guy is a regular in our area and has been here since he was a baby. The family was driven out of his native Linley Valley here in Nanaimo and they have settled at Neck Point. One weird thing though, I only see him in the summer time.
